چکیده

We assess the current phenomenological status of transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions (PDFs) and fragmentation functions (FFs) and study the effect of consistently including perturbative QCD (pQCD) evolution. Our goal is to initiate the process of establishing reliable, QCD-evolved parametrizations for the TMD PDFs and TMD FFs that can be used both to test TMD factorization and to search for evidence of the breakdown of TMD factorization that is expected for certain processes. In this article, we focus on spin-independent processes because they provide the simplest illustration of the basic steps and can already be used in direct tests of TMD factorization. Our calculations are based on the Collins-Soper-Sterman (CSS) formalism, supplemented by recent theoretical developments which have clarified the precise definitions of the TMD PDFs and TMD FFs needed for a valid TMD-factorization theorem. Starting with these definitions, we numerically generate evolved TMD PDFs and TMD FFs using as input existing parametrizations for the collinear PDFs, collinear FFs, nonperturbative factors in the CSS factorization formalism, and recent fixed-scale fits. We confirm that evolution has important consequences, both qualitatively and quantitatively, and argue that it should be included in future phenomenological studies of TMD functions. Our analysis is also suggestive of extensions to processes that involve spin-dependent functions such as the Boer-Mulders, Sivers, or Collins functions, which we intend to pursue in future publications. At our website [http:// projects.hepforge.org/tmd/], we have made available the tables and calculations needed to obtain the TMD parametrizations presented herein.

ترکش گلوئون به چارمونیوم برداری J/psi با در نظر گرفتن اثر تابع موج مزون

Studying the production or decay processes of heavy quarkonia (the bound state of heavy quark-antiquark) is a powerful tool to test our understanding of strong interaction dynamics and QCD theory. Fragmentation is the dominant production mechanism for heavy quarkonia with large transverse momentum. The fragmentation refers to the production process of a parton with high transverse momentum whic...

Transversity of Quarks and Nucleons in Sidis and Drell Yan

One of the persistent challenges confronting the QCD parton model is the explanation of the significant azimuthal and single spin asymmetries that emerge in inclusive and semi-inclusive processes . Going beyond the collinear approximation in PQCD recent progress has been achieved in characterizing these asymmetries in terms of absorptive scattering . Such asymmetries involve time-reversal-odd (...

Fracture Functions: Factorization and Evolution

Fracture functions 1 have been introduced to extend the usual QCD improved parton picture of semi-inclusive deep inelastic processes to the low transverse momentum region of phase space, where the target fragmentation contribution becomes important. Trentadue and Veneziano 1 proposed to describe such contribution as a convolution of a new phenomenological distribution, the fracture function, wi...

EFFECTS OF SOFT GLUON EMISSION ON THE OPPOSITE-SIDE ACOLLINEARITY DISTRIBUTIONS IN e +e - ANNIHILATION

The PLUTO collaboration [l] has recently measured the two-particle acollinearity distributions of charged hadrons in e +eannihilation at different energies Q = 7.7-31.6 GeV. In this paper we investigate the effects of soft gluon emission on these distributions, when the hadrons belong to opposite jets. Our approach is based on the evolution equations for the fragmentation functions D,“(x, k,, Q...

Azimuthal asymmetries in semi - inclusive leptoproduction ‡

We point out the role of intrinsic transverse momentum of partons in the study of azimuthal asymmetries in deep-inelastic 1-particle inclusive leptoproduction. Leading asymmetries often appear in combination with spin asymmetries. This leads not only to transverse momentum dependence in the parton distribution functions, but also to functions beyond the ones known from inclusive deep-inelastic ...
